On The Road Again

Sunday 29th September

We finally made it….  at around 4.30 on Friday 27th September we rode into John O’Groats after three days on the road.  The Ariels performed faultlessly and the weather was kind. Our thanks to everyone for their support and donations for the NSPCC.  Also a big thank you to Motolug for the loan of the trailer and Motul for the supply of two-stroke oil.  More information on our journey to follow shortly and look out for the forthcoming Motorcycle News article and video.

Just to recap….. On 14th July last year my son (Michael) and I set out from Land’s End on a charity ride in aid of the NSPCC. We were riding on a pair of Ariel motorcycles (1960 Leader and Arrow) and were aiming to reach John O’Groats five days later. Unfortunately due to the sudden illness of Michael’s 4 year old daughter we had to abort the trip. Now one year and a knee replacement operation later (mine not Michael’s) we are about to resume the ride. The new plan is to start on Wednesday 25th September from where we left off last year at the end of Day 2 (Tarporley in Cheshire) and aim to reach John O’Groats by Friday (27th).

Our thanks to everyone who sponsored us and so far we have donated £604.50 to the NSPCC. Donations can still be made via: http://www.justgiving.com/thearielsride

April 2012

It’s now almost four years since my charity ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End on a 1938 Rudge Ulster and I’m now planning to do the journey again although this time starting at Land’s End. My son Michael is joining me and he will be riding my 1960 Ariel Arrow whilst I will be on my 1960 Ariel Leader.

As before my wife, Sylvia will follow in our motorhome acting as our backup and support crew. We hope to make the trip early in July and reckon we should be able to cover about two hundred miles each day which will mean that it should take about five days. Obviously we also want to do the journey without going on to any motorways.

We’re calling our jaunt Top2Toe2 and again we want to use it as an opportunity to raise funds for the NSPCC. So if anyone is interested in sponsoring us this can be done via: http://www.justgiving.com/thearielsride

If you would like more information about the trip and the route, I can be contacted at don@dsguy.co.uk
